Basic DetailsGraphTracerouteA test used to show the route taken by packets across an Internet Protocol (IP) network. It could be used to determine whether routing problems exist on the network or which path IP packets are taking to get from your computer to the remote computer. |
What is TracerouteTraceroute is a computer network diagnostic tool for displaying the route and measuring transit delays of packets across an Internet Protocol (IP) network. Traceroute sends a sequence of Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request packets addressed to a destination host. Determining the intermediate routers traversed involves adjusting the time-to-live (TTL), a.k.a. hop limit, Internet Protocol parameter. Routers decrement this and discard a packet when the TTL value has reached zero, returning the ICMP error message ICMP Time Exceeded. Traceroute uses the returned ICMP messages to produce a list of routers that the packets have traversed. My server is up & running but I can't receive a trace route response, why? Some servers or routers block all ICMP requests like traceroute and some of them are temporarily blocking them using a firewall considering trace route as port scanning. My server's trace route responce is ok but I don't see my pagesJust because the server is responding using trace route doesn't mean that the website is working, you should also check other tests like Ping, HTTP headers to be sure. |
